Bandung as Potatoes Producing Regency
Bandung regency (district) covers areas of the Highlands of Lembang and Tangkuban Perahu mountain area. This area is famous as cool climates with adequate rainfall and fertile soil types of Andisol. Moreover, captive-bred of seed potatoes from Bandung Regency is demand by farmers who came from several provinces such as Aceh, Sulawesi, Sumatra till to Bali.
Head of Agriculture and Forestry Plantations Office Service of Bandung Regency said that the price of seed potatoes of granola cultivar G5 (Fifth Generation) of breeder quality level reaches IDR 18,000 per kilogram (kg)."While the price of potatoes reach to IDR 6,000 per kilogram. Thus, there is a difference in price is very profitable.
According to him, in Bandung district there are 96 groups and companies engaged in the field of seed productio. Seeds sold by certain groups that should have been deemed to pass the verification by the Institute for Certification of Seed.
Potato farmers in the district are located in two sub-districts of Bandung as Pangalengan and Kertasari. Seed potatoes is the result of verification test conducted by the Vegetable Research Center Study (Balitsa) and universities such as Padjadjaran University, IPB and University Winaya Mukti (UNWIM).
They create crossed seeds thus producing good quality of potatoes seed. As for the seed potatoes of Atlantic is still relied on Australia.
