Drought of Long Dry Season

The ongoing droughts in Indonesia, even now in October. Extreme weather and erratic invite various health problems.

 Head of the Agency for Health Research and Development, Ministry of Health announced some health problems in the ongoing dry season.

The dry season can increase the spread of infectious diseases and agents such as bacterial infection leptospirosis (known as rat urine disease), diarrhea, and cholera. The disease is increasing due to poor sanitation due to lack of water or during floods.
"Changes in the pattern of the spread of vector-borne diseases can also be caused by marsh and mangrove ecosystems are changing," said th eannouncement.

  In addition, the increased in temperatures reach 2-3 degrees Celsius due to extreme climate can increase the levels of ozone in the atmosphere. Ozone is also harmful to humans, according to announcement it may increase respiratory diseases because of increased air pollution.

  Changes in temperature and humidity can increase human contact with the population and disease vectors (such as disease-carrying animals). Vector borne disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes majority, also will increase by 3-5 percent.
  "Increased temperatures in  dry season will expand the distribution of vectors and enhance the development and growth of the parasite becomes infective," said added in the announcement.
